Two ministers in BNI cells for printing fake GH¢50 notes
The Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) has mounted a manhunt for the founder and head pastor of Conquerors Redemption Ministry International at Achimota, a suburb of Accra, Apostle Richard K. Dwumfour for allegedly conniving with two other minister of the gospel-Isaac Oti Agyeman, head pastor of Calvary Redemption Ministry, located at Kwabenya, also a suburb of Accra, and one Charles Tawiah, a member of the Conquerors Redemption Ministry International to print fake GH¢500 notes to the tune of over ¢1 billion, and using them to swindle unsuspecting Ghanaians.
Rev. Oti Agyeman and Charles Tawiah are currently in BNI cells, but Apostle Dwumfuor, who got wind that the security agency was looking for him has gone into hiding. Information available to The Chronicle indicates that the two pastors and a church member have been deceiving the public that they can double money.
According to BNI sources, after they collect money from their unsuspecting victims, they exchange it with the fake currency notes that they have printed. Luck, however, eluded them when they took their trick to a banker. They told him they had GH¢40,000 notes to exchange. The banker feigned interest and told them that the GH¢40,000 was too small, and that they should go and add some more money.
They consented to the request and went and brought GH¢100,000 in GH¢50 denomination. Unknown to them, the banker had already alerted the BNI, who pounced on them in the course of the transaction and arrested Rev. Oti Agyeman and Charles Tawiah.
The prime suspect, Apostle Dwumfuor, however, managed to escape. The BNI retrieved fake GH¢100,000 wrapped in a yellow polythene bag and concealed in a laptop bag belonging to Rev. Agyeman.
According to BNI sources, Charles Tawiah, alias 'Yahaya Osmar,' had admitted to the offence and revealed that they have been selling the fake monies to the public for some time now. Rev. Agyeman, in his statement, however, denied possessing the money but claimed that the bag in which the money was kept belonged to him.
He told the BNI officials that he was unaware of the transaction and that a friend pastor by name James Nyantekyi took him to the church for a meeting, under the auspices of the Great Partnership Network Discussion. He said after the meeting his friend could not immediately pick him to his house. According to him, his pastor friend had gone to 'drop' others with the view of picking him up later, hence his decision to stay on the premises of the Church of Conquerors, where he was arrested by the BNI.
According to reports, the officials of the BNI are leaving no stone unturned to arrest the founder of the Conquerors Redemption Ministry International. The suspected fake currency notes all have the same serial number, and would be sent to the Bank of Ghana for further verifications.
The BNI have gone to court to secure a bench warrant for the arrest of Apostle Dwumfuor, who has since been at large.
An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. D.E K Darketsey, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Apostle. "You are hereby commanded in the name of the Republic of Ghana forthwith to apprehend the said Apostle Richard K. Dwumfour and produce him before the court,” the judge stated in the arrest warrant.
