Prince Harry hides pain as Chelsy leaves

PRINCE Harry put on a brave face after his girlfriend decided to quit Britain for Africa - leaving their relationship in tatters.

Royal aides yesterday insisted the couple are still together, but confirmed 24-year-old Chelsy Davy is leaving the country.

A source close to the pair said: "They're going to be more than 6,000 miles apart for most of the year.

"They've told friends they'll see how it goes - but it's hard to hold out much hope of them surviving when they won't even be on the same continent."

It emerged yesterday that Harry and Chelsy shared a holiday together in Zambia just before the prince's six-day tour of Africa with brother Prince William. During the break, Harry, 25, is thought to have accepted that Zimbabwe-born Chelsy's mind was made up.

He showed no obvious signs of upset during the official trip.

But he did not include his sweetheart's name when asked to list those closest to him by HIV-positive kids in Lesotho.

Harry's on-off romance with Chelsy looked back on track when she watched him receive his helicopter wings last month.

But she axed plans to work for a London law firm and will continue her legal career in South Africa.

Harry is known to love Africa but is committed to a career based in Britain as an Army Apache pilot.

A friend said: "It's sad he can't just up sticks for Africa. But being who he is, it's simply not an option."
