THIS was the moment Ghana's World Cup dream died - and a continent went into mourning.Asamoah Gyan looks to the heavens and prays after missing a penalty with the last kick of extra-time.

With 1billion people willing him to make Ghana the first African nation ever to reach the World Cup semi-finals, Gyan's effort hit the bar.

Seconds later a drama-soaked clash went to a shootout - and Gyan bravely stepped up to bury Ghana's first penalty in the top corner.

But Uruguay went on to book a clash with Holland thanks to Sebastian Abreu's cheekily chipped spot-kick.

Gyan's golden 120th-minute chance came when Luis Suarez handled on the line, earning him a red card.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac said: "Probably we are not really conscious of what would have happened.

"That's football. It seems everything was directed by someone, but you saw what happened.

"This was sporting injustice but we must congratulate Uruguay.

"I don't know what I would tell Suarez at this moment. It was bad luck. That's all I can say.

"We had the shootout and the opponents had the psychological advantage and seized their opportunity.

"It really would have been a fairytale if it had ended well for us. The whole of Africa supported us and we didn't deserve to lose in such a way."

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez insisted: "Saying we cheated Ghana is too harsh a word to use.

"Yes, he stuck his hand out but it's not cheating - I don't think it's fair to say that.

"The player instinctively reacted and was thrown out of the match and he can't play the next match. What else do you want?

"Is Suarez also to blame for Ghana missing the penalty?"
