Chelsea set to scupper Manchester City deal for Valencia midfielder David Silva

Chelsea are plotting to hijack a move by Manchester City to sign Valencia midfielder David Silva.

The 24-year-old's future has been the subject of much speculation in the past, particularly owing to the brittle state of finances at the Spanish club.

City have been interested in securing the services of the Spain international, with the
La Liga club recently revealing that the Eastlands outfit had been given permission to chalk out a deal with the player.

However, the player's agent, Julio Llorente, claims that the
Premier League winners have made an 11th hour move to prise the player away from the clutches of the Citizens.

In the meantime, he has also maintained that the 24-year-old still has his options open, while indicating that a move to the blue half of Manchester hinges on the player himself.

"We won't know where he is going this week because we're weighing up offers from three clubs and one of them is Chelsea," Llorente said, according to
The Daily Mail. "If Silva doesn't want to go [to City], the transfer isn't possible."

Silva has already rejected a move to City once in the past because they cannot offer him
Champions League football next season, as Goal.com UK exclusively revealed earlier this month.
