Arsene Wenger confirms Arsenal are still in the hunt for Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that FC Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny remains a priority transfer target this summer as he plans for the absence of William Gallas.

The north Londoners are believed to have already had an £8 million bid turned down by Lorient but have not let that discourage them, it appears.

"There has been an approach for Koscielny and there still is one," said Wenger, according to
The Sun.

Meanwhile, Wenger beleieves that the way in which Gallas departed from the Emirates may have unsettled the centre-back ahead of a disastrous World Cup campaign for the French
team.

There had been reports earlier in the tournament that Gallas had had something of a bust-up with other members of the French
party about coach Raymond Domenech's decision to hand the captain's armband to Patrice Evra rather than Gallas.

"I don't know if Gallas has been perturbed by his departure from Arsenal," Wenger added.

"I knew he wouldn't be at 100 per cent for this tournament. The question for the
manager is to know if he should have called up Gallas while knowing he's not 100 per cent.

"He's played 35 minutes in four months before here.

"It's not enough to get into a
competition like this. When you don't know where you are physically, a player is always fragile.

"Wiliam is a boy with great will, he's a winner. But he wants to do well so badly that sometimes he puts a lot of pressure on himself.
